She never wanted marriage...

When a friend is forced to consider a marriage of convenience, Lady Amelia Staunton is determined to rescue her. But her plans trap her in an illicit seduction, and Amelia must marry him herself. Malcolm's all-consuming kisses and devilish humor might make up for her lost freedom, but she believes he will force her to abandon the Gothic romances she yearns to write. Since she can't escape him, she must distract him from her secret...

He isn't looking for love...

A powerful autocrat with a well-hidden rebellious streak, Malcolm MacCabe doesn't need another beautiful mistress - he needs an obedient wife. Obedience is not one of Amelia's virtues. But he's too enthralled by her wit and passion to let her go - even if it means risking the political reputation he is building to save his clan.

Their hearts can't survive the scandal...

Despite their intentions, every wicked embrace binds them together. But as their conflicting desires combust into insatiable hunger and unavoidable ruin, they must decide whether to pursue their personal destinies alone - or fight for the love that could destroy them both.

Scotsmen Prefer Blondes Muses of Mayfair Book 2 edition by Sara Ramsey Romance eBooks

I read this book several months ago, but a few scenes left an impression on me. Amelia wants her marriage to be a partnership, so while Malcolm is wooing her (after compromising her) he devises an adventure for them to work together to play a prank on the neighbor/friend by stealing his sheep. He totally tricks her into thinking he'll let her have input on things in their marriage and then overrides her in every decision once they get married.

Then there's a "love" scene where he's so forceful he leaves bruises on her hips. That scene and the callous way he treats her made me really angry at him! I actually had to stand up and pace the room for a few moments to shake it off. I'm surprised I kept reading, but I rarely do not finish a book.

After their marriage, Malcolm treats Amelia badly for most of the book, and when he finally realizes he might like to keep her around, he barely apologizes for his behavior. What a jerk! I really, really disliked him. On a positive note, this story certainly made me appreciate my wonderful husband! Obviously the book is well written or I wouldn't have had such a strong reaction to it. After reading it, I gave the author a second chance by reading Heiress Without A Cause (Muses of Mayfair). That book is MUCH better, but not enough to win me over. Now I avoid this author since her vision of a "hero" is so different from mine.

Scotsmen Prefer Blondes Muses of Mayfair Book 2 edition by Sara Ramsey Romance eBooks Reviews

Scotsman Prefer Blondes is the second in a series about artistic London ladies who befriend each other as they dance their way through the ton season. I had not read the first book of this series.

The heroine of this tale is Lady Amelia Staunton, a writer who keeps her writing talents hidden behind an alias. She is a published author, one who has written a scandalous book about a onetime suitor who needed a bit of comeuppance. Amelia has been born in the wrong century. She has the ideals of a twenty fist century woman but has been plopped down in the 19th century. Amelia never wants to marry, ever, ever. This is her mantra. If she could tattoo it on her skin she would. She is against the whole shebang of marriage. I don’t even know if she believes in love which is odd because she writes romance novels. Amelia is a walking enigma.

Hero Malcolm MacCabe needs to marry an honest, non-scandalous peer to play hostess to his political dinners and such. Malcom is a Scot and worries about the livelihood of his crofters. He feels he must take his place in the House of Lords to advocate for his clan. Malcolm’s feelings toward his clan and family are admirable. He finds himself drawn to Amelia even though her best friend is the one he should marry.

Amelia, of course, says she wants nothing to do with Malcolm, even though he rings her bell and makes her weak at the knees. Amelia has a bad habit of lying to herself. She and Malcolm have a rocky romance filled with misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations. Malcolm spells out his hopes much better than Amelia, who sort of expects Malcolm to just understand what hers are. I never felt that Amelia really understood the burden Malcolm was under regarding his crofters and their plight. I also felt there was not a strong emotional pull between the leads. Amelia was not a heroine I warmed to and Malcolm was just too quick to decide on Amelia.
I have to say I'm disappointed with Scotsmen Prefer Blondes. I read Heiress Without a Cause, the first book in this series and absolutely loved it. Even though I don't get to read as much as I used to, I had to download this with the audio for $1.99.

While the first book kept me enthralled from beginning to end, this one had me ready to give up several times. I even tried to return the version, but I'd had it too long I guess. It rare for me to want to give up on a book. Since that wasn't possible, I figured I might as well finish with hopes it would improve, It didn't.

I did not like Amelia’s character at all. She acted very immature and self-centered. While she was supposed to be a strong independent woman, who never wanted to marry, she acted like a doormat on several occasions. Once she felt compelled to marry Malcolm, she gave into his tirades and obnoxious behavior.

You guessed, it did not like Malcolm by the end of the book, even though, I did like him fairly well up until the part where a cottage on his estate burned. The tide turned when he brutally takes Amelia, leaving bruises on her hips!

As I read this, I was reminded of Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. Amelia and Malcolm act as mercurial as they did, going from hot to cold in the blink of an eye.

I really wanted to like this book, but in the end, even though it does have a decent ending, it just wasn't strong enough to redeem either character for me. Happy reading!
The plot was so weak and uninteresting, I had to struggle to finish the book. I didn't really care for the first book in this series but wanted to read this one to see if the author redeemed herself. Unfortunately, I liked this one even less than the first.

The heroine just wasn't very likeable. I found her to be shallow, self-absorbed, manipulative and dishonest. All of her angst over her writing was over done. It was ridiculous to blame the Hero for some of his behaviors and expect him to completely love and accommodate the heroine, all the while she is keeping a major secret from him. Something he had asked her about before he married her, which, of course, she lied about.

The hero acted like a jerk on a few occasions but at least he was in pursuit of saving his clan by trying to do the right thing by them. The heroine, on the other hand, was only interested in her own selfish pursuits.

There just wasn't enough substance to keep a reader interested here.
